Mahan is located on the West Virginia Turnpike (Interstates 77 and 64) at Exit 66. There is a Sunoco Station and convenience store and a few residences. The main road through Mahan is a scenic lane with old trees and Paint Creek dancing alongside.

The area was once a busy coal town with a railroad line. It’s rich history includes mining strikes, building railroads, and tragic floods. “The Flood and the Blood”, written by Dennis J. Deitz details history of Mahan and the Paint Creek area. It is available at the Kanawha County Library system, which may be reached at 304-343-4646. The book is also available for purchase at Amazon.com and other book sales and exchange websites. (ISBN (10): 0938985035, ISBN (13): 978093895037)
