The community of Looneyville was named after Robert Looney, who brought his family here to live in 1839. Mr. Looney was a veteran of the War of 1812 and served as a Justice of the Peace in Roane County for many years. Descendants of the Looney family still reside in Roane County.

Today, Looneyville is a scenic rural community with rolling hills, small farms and scattered homes. The Looneyville Post Office serves the area.

All Around the House Gifts & More is a craft and antiques boutique on State Highway 36. Owners Michael Ray and Barbara Smith have made Looneyville their home since 1999. The shop building was originally used as a feed store. A lot of renovation was needed to make it cute and cozy for the gift shop. For information about All Around the House Gifts call 304-927-0006.

Merlin and Vicky Shamblin have lived in Looneyville since 1989. “This is a great place to live with nice neighbors,” says Mrs. Shamlin. “We like having the freedom to do pretty much whatever we want.” What they did in 2007 was to open Shamlin Brothers Farm Supply. The company sells feed for livestock, farm equipment and homemade sorghum. “Our business is growing,” said Mr. Shamlin. For more information about Shamlin Brothers Farm Supply call 304-927-1426.

Dave Nichols employs four people at Dave’s Timber. “This is a family business that I have done all my life,” explains Mr. Nichols. “We do logging for land owners and cut wood into lumber. We sell our lumber mostly to local farmers.” The company also buys cut logs. They are equipped to produce custom moldings to order. For more information about Dave’s Timber call 304-927-5526.
