Harrison is a rural mountainous community on County Route 11 between Ivydale and Widen. The area provides natural forest views, abundant wildlife, privacy, and highway access. Hunting and riding ATVs are favorite passtimes for its residents. Deer, turkeys, rabbits, and squirrels are plentiful game along with groundhogs, which are called “whistle pigs” because of their high pitched voices.

Country Short Shop is a Stihl dealership located in Harrison which sells chain saws, line trimmers and other Stihl products and repairs all brands of chains saws and line trimmers. The company was started by Norman Johnson in 1975. “I started this company as a hobby,” explains Mr. Johnson. He still runs the company with the help of his son Michael. “We provide the best service in the state for Stihl products,” said Michael Johnson with pride.

Norman Johnson married his high school sweetheart, Avis, just before getting drafted. During his 24 year Air Force career, Mr. Johnson was assigned to work with the first table-top computer the Air Force had. The couple returned to Harrison in 1968 to be near their families. At this writing, the Johnsons have been married for 60 years.
