Glen is a residential community in a rural forest setting. It is located on Clay County Highway 1, halfway between State Highway 4 at Queen Shoals and State Highway 16 at Indore.

The first home in Glen was built by C. B. and Hettie Mullins on their farm. According to local residents, Mr. Mullins paid the steep price of $4 per acre for his farm property. He worked at a nearby sawmill which may have produced the lumber he used to build his family’s home. A large Federal style, the farm house is now owned by Jeanette Karnes, Wilson Matheny and their daughter Erica. Right next door, the Mullins’ built a General Store which housed the Post Office. Although the General Store is now closed, the Post Office remains open for business.

Because of the forest surroundings, Glen provides abundant wildlife for hunting, fishing and other recreation such as hiking, ATV riding and mountain biking. The Carbide Recreation Camp (CRC) in Glen provides a 1,400 acre property with more than 140 acres of ATV trails to its members. The camp was orginally operated by Union Carbide Corporation for its employees and guests. Now the camp offers camping, hunting, fishing, lodge and RV sites through a membership program.

The public is invited to CRC for its annual public events which include an April Ramp Dinner, Memorial Day weekend camping, July 4th weekend camping, and 3 Poker Run events for ATV riders. For more information about CRC call 304-986-3701.
