Dixie is a small town located on State Highway 16 near Twentymile Creek. It is served by a post office, elementary school, and several small businesses.
With a strong timber legacy, the hardwood forest surrounding Dixie is still its primary resource. Clonch Industries, opened in 1928, produces lumber products in Ash, Basswood (Linden), Cherry, Hard Maple, Hickory, Poplar, Red Oak, Soft Maple, Walnut and White Oak. Elswick Home Center opened in 1988 as a spin-off from Elswick Lumber Company, which has been in business since the 1940s. “My parents and uncles started the business,” said Sharon Coleman who runs the retail home center. “I like dealing with the public and making sure we have the stock to sell that people want to buy.” The company has two employees in addition to family workers.
