Central Appalachia Empowerment Zone of West Virginia (CAEZ of WV) applied in 2008 to become an eligible Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) through the West Virginia Housing Development Fund. The Appalachia Home Program (AHP) was developed to construct new, affordable, energy efficient, single family housing for low to moderate income families in our five (5) county service area. A primary preference under the AHP will be given to very low income families with dependent children who live in substandard rental housing. However, this preference will not preclude other income eligible families from applying for assistance under the AHP.

Eligible counties are Braxton, Clay, Fayette, Nicholas, and Roane. Income guidelines under the AHP may not exceed 80 percent of the area median income for the county in which the applicant will reside. An eight hour Homebuyer Education Course, provided by the AHP staff, must be completed. Through the Homebuyer Education Class, we will assist potential Homebuyers in identifying any credit issues that may need to be resolved before permanent financing can be obtained, so they can be addressed and resolved.

These homes will be constructed on scattered sites throughout the zone, as suitable property is acquired. The homes and properties will sell for the appraised value. For more information, please complete the Pre-Qualification document and submit to the CAEZ staff or call the CAEZ Office at 304-587-2034.
